Old Annecy is not Annecy-le-Vieux
Pay attention to place names. The tourism office distinguishes the historic old town from Annecy-le-Vieux. If choosing a room through the word vieux, check its exact address. Similar wording does not mean the same starting point beside the Thiou.
Palais de l'Isle stands in the river and gives an old-town walk a clear reference. Its form can be appreciated outside; going inside is another decision with its own opening arrangements. Distinguish the two so a short waterside walk does not quietly become a fully scheduled morning.
Nearby lanes and arcades form a connected area. For photography, avoid constantly returning to the same narrow viewpoint. Walking from one edge to another also reveals streets behind familiar images. Respect entrances and everyday use of the paths.
Give the lakeshore an endpoint
Moving from the enclosed old town to the open lakeshore provides the day's main contrast. The official visitor description connects this area with Jardins de l'Europe and Le Pâquier. You do not need to follow the whole shoreline to experience that change.
Decide between a short lake section, an extended promenade, and a separate activity on the water. A boat trip requires current departure information; a short shore walk adapts more easily to weather and energy. The lake is not a single point immediately outside every accommodation.
If continuing towards the Impérial, plan the return at the same time. Walking back, finding an appropriate connection, and eating near the endpoint are different options. An attractive line along the shore does not become a circuit because it looks convenient on a map.
For different walking preferences, agree the short shared section first. A longer extension can remain optional without forcing both people to make the same decision after they are already far from the starting point.
Respond to changing weather
A longer interior can occupy a rainy period while the lakeshore remains available for a better interval. Check the selected venue's current offer. A panoramic view and a collection satisfy different wishes; one does not automatically replace the other.
For one night, old town, a chosen shore section, and dinner create a workable trip. An outlying excursion should replace something else. Otherwise, arrival and onward travel consume much of the stay.
Connect the final walk with luggage and the actual departure point. That keeps the ending part of the visit instead of discovering the wrong side of town only after collecting the bags.
