Choose a direction through the old town
Local visitor information describes Landshut's elongated old town and the area beside St. Martin's Church. Use that sequence as a distinct town section for a first shared stay. Observe façades as the edges of a long public space rather than only individually. Looking back in the opposite direction can change the impression more than another turning.
Choose a pause here before deciding about the castle. The question of eating or continuing then does not arise only at the foot of another route. Someone primarily wanting buildings, squares and everyday life can remain in town. A castle visit is a choice rather than a prerequisite for considering Landshut properly visited. Let that preference be stated early.
Give Trausnitz a specific purpose
The Bavarian Palaces Administration identifies different visiting formats and current conditions for Trausnitz Castle. Check how an interior works on your date. A guided visit and independent exploration are not automatically interchangeable. Establish the intended extent before beginning the journey up, instead of discovering the options only at the entrance.
Mark the castle and planned access on a current map. Its apparent closeness in the townscape does not establish the effort involved at your pace. Discuss whether a higher section appeals to both people and how the return will work. Looking towards the castle from below differs from entering, but may be exactly the appropriate extent for this day.
Other historic properties, including the Town Residence, have their own visitor information. An appealing façade does not establish an open interior. During work or restrictions, an outside look can still make sense without immediately searching for a replacement museum. The place can remain part of the urban scene without becoming another admission.
Use the long streets for the ending
If returning to the old town, choose a section where you actually want to remain. A second look can feel different after the castle without repeating every photographic stop. Allow the new perspective to inform the return instead of treating it as a compulsory retracing of the outward walk.
For a short trip, the old town and St. Martin's surroundings with an extended pause may be enough. With more time, Trausnitz can provide the second focus. Both are coherent day shapes. The preferable one is where both travellers retain attention for the town, rather than whichever contains the greatest theoretical number of interiors. Check departure from the actual final stop.
