Begin with the street space
Approach Münster's old town through Prinzipalmarkt and its surroundings. Municipal visitor information identifies the Lambertikirche there and describes other central places. Start with the public setting rather than the longest possible route: how do people move beneath the arcades, where does a square open and where would a longer look be worthwhile? Allow observation to count as part of the visit.
If browsing shops appeals, give it a defined section. The other person can explore briefly alone or go to an agreed meeting point. A shared town day then does not quietly become an all-day shopping trip for one traveller. The aim is an understandable balance rather than equal time at every window. Keep the meeting place specific enough to find without a phone search.
Change the setting around the palace
Choose the palace area for a second section. The official old-town description explains access to the palace garden beside the main building and identifies the botanical garden. Check current visitor arrangements for each area. A palace in a photograph does not establish that it contains a freely accessible museum interior.
Moving from the more enclosed centre towards garden spaces changes the visit's character. Use that deliberately: after façades and shops, allow a longer pause in an appropriate public area. There is no need to add a substantial landscape route merely because Münster is also associated with cycling. Choose the scale that fits the two people actually visiting.
Walking is a complete choice
Travelling without bicycles does not create a missing activity to compensate for. A connected selection of old town and palace surroundings can provide its own programme. Check the real return route and pay attention to paths shared with other road users. Do not assume every broad surface serves pedestrians alone.
If adding a museum or guided visit, give it a defined role in the sequence. Shorten an optional street section rather than removing every break. This helps where one traveller collects information and the other experiences a city through lingering. Both approaches can fit without fragmenting the day into repeated compulsory changes. Leave the final extension optional rather than another firm appointment.
