Bags need a separate location decision

Two adjacent reserved seats do not establish space for two large cases beside them. Check the actual train type and designated storage. DB describes under-seat or between-seat spaces and luggage racks in its long-distance examples. Actual arrangements vary by vehicle.

Decide who can carry and lift each item. A case difficult to raise above shoulder height does not belong overhead merely because the seats are beneath it. Use appropriate designated space and ask staff where unclear. Do not leave a heavy bag unstable.

Aisles, doors, safety equipment, and designated wheelchair areas must remain clear, as DB expressly explains. An empty area beside the seats is therefore not automatically luggage storage. Straps and handles should not project into circulation space.

Board together without blocking movement

Locate the carriage through the current formation before boarding. Sorting seat numbers and all bags in a narrow aisle creates a bottleneck. Keep confirmations accessible and clear the doorway after entering.

One person can identify appropriate storage while the other follows with another case. This is task-sharing rather than an instruction to leave bags unattended elsewhere. Both should know which items stand where.

Keep frequently needed items in a small accessible bag. Documents, personally needed medication, or a charging cable need not sit deep inside the largest case. This reduces repeated lifting without filling the footwell with another large container.

Do not plan on occupying an extra seat with luggage. A currently empty seat can still be required by another passenger later. Storage should remain workable as the carriage fills, not only while boarding first.

Every item travels again at a change

Before changing, account for cases, smaller bags, and objects in racks. A brief shared count can help. Alighting from the main train does not finish luggage handling if another bus or railway follows.

Judge the interchange through actual bags. A quick unladen walk is not a realistic measure for two cases and a level change. If a bag is stored farther away, prepare in time without pressuring passengers who are boarding.

At destination, include carrying to the actual accommodation entrance. Only the complete route reveals whether the chosen amount is manageable. A suitable train rack does not make an excessively heavy case easy to handle elsewhere.
